Turkey workshop open to young adults

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will offer a workshop April 3-4 especially for young adults on how to hunt turkeys.

The free class is designed specifically for women and men, ages 18 to 30. No experience or equipment is required. Class leaders will explain safety, rules and regulations, equipment needed, how to field dress a turkey, and the strategies for hunting turkeys. Participants also will get to try out various calls.

On April 3, there will be an evening session at the Durango Community Recreation Center that will focus on turkey biology and the basics of hunting them. An all-day hands-on session will take place April 4 at the old Fort Lewis campus in Hesperus. That session will feature shotgun skills, safety and shooting, turkey hunting strategies, learning how and when to use turkey calls and other field skills.
