Hillcrest women get golf season rolling May 4

The Hillcrest Women’s Golf Association is holding its opening night dinner May 4 at Hillcrest Golf Club. Registration and appetizers will start at 5 p.m.; dinner is at 6 p.m.

The cost is $10 for dinner and $20 to purchase an association membership for the season. The first day of play is May 5.

There are three groups – a nine-hole group, an 18-hole group and the Swingers, a group that plays nine holes just for fun (no scoring, no prizes). All women golfers are invited.

Parks and Wildlife offers men-only workshop

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will sponsor a free workshop, for men only, on June 12-14 at the Lone Cone/Jim Olterman State Wildlife Area south of Norwood.

The workshop will feature instruction about hunting, fishing, camping, archery, firearms training and more. The workshop is aimed at men who have little or no hunting or fishing experience. Those attending can bring their tent for camping or bring a pad for sleeping on the floor of the cabin. Colorado Parks and Wildlife will provide food and water. Colorado Parks and Wildlife also will provide all equipment, including fly rods, shotguns, and archery gear. Participants can bring their own fishing and archery equipment and a 20-gauge shotgun. Attendees must have a current fishing license. The application deadline is May 25. A $40 deposit is required, but that will be returned during the workshop.

Seniors Outdoors to offer activities

Seniors Outdoors will offer these activities:

The semi-annual highway cleanup will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday. Participants will clean up two stretches of U.S. Highway 550. Coffee and donuts will be served in the parking area across from the Hermosa Conoco station. The cost to carpool is $1. Dogs are not allowed. A trip to Grand Staircase, Utah, will take place from Monday to April 30. Participants will explore some of the canyons in the Paria River drainage system, along with other sights in the area. Dogs are not allowed. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is required. To RSVP, email Sue Agranoff at sagranoff@alum.mit.edu.

A bike ride for intermediate road cyclists will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday. This is a no-drop, social ride of 16 miles (round-trip) from Home Depot to Bread. Participants will meet in the south parking lot at Home Depot. The Wednesday Wanderers will hike in Overend Mountain Park at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Poles will be helpful for the steep descents. This hike is open to members only. Dogs are not allowed. No RSVP is needed.
