Nordic Center announces events
The Nordic Center at Purgatory will be hosting a Coke Series race on Saturday. There will be a 10-kilometer freestyle race for adults and shorter distances for juniors, and there will be a 10K fat bike race. Registration is at 9 a.m. at the Nordic Center, the ski races start at 10 a.m. and the bike race starts at 11 a.m. The cost is $15 for adults or $8 for juniors.
On Sunday, the Nordic Center will hold a skate ski clinic at 1 p.m. There will be classes for skiers of all ability levels. Equipment rentals are available at the Nordic Center for $25. The cost of the clinic is $25 for Nordic season pass holders or $30 for other skiers. For more information or to sign up for the clinic, call 385-2114.
Snowmobile group welcomes interest
The San Juan Sledders is a Durango-based club and a member of the Colorado Snowmobile Association that grooms trails in the area for snowmobiling, cross country, dog sled and other winter activities. The group holds monthly meetings on the second Thursday of the month during the snow season as well as scheduled rides in the area through the winter months. Seniors Outdoors announces programs
Seniors Outdoors will offer these programs:
A general meeting will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday, preceded by a 6:30 p.m. social. Chris Blackshear will present “Hiking the John Muir Trail,” 200 miles from Yosemite to Sequoia national parks.
Snowshoeing 101 for beginners is at 10 a.m. Feb. 14. Practice will be near Dell Manners’ home on nearly flat terrain. Bring lunch or snacks, water, snowshoes, poles, gaiters and winter snow boots or heavier hiking boots appropriate for snowshoeing. If you need snowshoe rentals, call Dell for suggestions. Parking for Twin Buttes Trailhead is just west of the Giant gas station on west U.S. Highway160. Carpool $2. Dogs OK. RSVP: Dell Manners at 385-0533 or dmanners@sisna.com.
