Winter Warrior race receives recognition

Durango’s original competitive snowshoe race – The Winter Warrior 10k – has made RUNNER’S WORLD Magazine’s “Top 12 Snowshoe Races” in its December issue.

Steve Ilg started the Winter Warrior Snowshoe Race six years ago, which traverses both singletrack and groomed trails at the Nordic Center at Purgatory Ski Resort. Ilg donates 100 percent of race proceeds to the Durango Youth Nordic Ski Team. The Winter Warrior also is the only regional National Championship Qualifier. The race attracts local cyclists and runners and national champions.

This year’s race will take place Jan. 30. This year’s costume theme is the “80’s”. For more information, email Steve@WholisticFitness.com, visit www.WinterWarrior10k.com or Winter Warrior on Facebook.
