Vallecito Nordic Trail Day to be held

Vallecito Nordic Trail Day will take place Saturday.

Anyone interested in helping prepare trails for cross-country skiing is welcome to join at 10 a.m. at Madden’s Corner on the east side of Vallecito Lake. The group will walk the trails and trim bushes and move branches. Participants should wear gloves and bring some type of cutting/pruning tool, a shovel or rock bar.

Seniors Outdoors announces activities

Seniors Outdoors will offer these activities:

The San Rafael Swell Exploratory Camping Trip will take place Monday to Oct. 16. Participants will explore canyons in the Swell and Robber’s Roost area. Dogs are not allowed. Four-wheel-drive and high-clearance vehicles are needed. To RSVP, email Chris Blackshear at chris.blackshear@gmail.com.

A Monday bike ride for intermediate road cyclists will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday. This is a no-drop, social ride of 16 miles (round-trip) from Home Depot to Bread. Participants will meet in the south parking lot at Home Depot. A hike of Purgatory Trail to the Animas River will take place at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The trailhead is located across U.S. Highway 550 from Purgatory Resort. Pace will be moderate. Dogs are not allowed. The Seniors Outdoors! General Meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave. A “Journey to the Sky” – Lights for Nepal will be presented by Joe Williams, who will recount the adventures he and eight members of Daybreak Rotary experienced as they trekked to a remote area of Nepal to install lights for the local population.

The Wednesday Wanderers will hike the Heartwood Co-Housing Trail in Bayfield at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The group will hike approximately 4 miles. Dogs are not allowed. To RSVP, call Dell Manners at 385-0533 and Gail Davidson at 799-2940.

The Seniors Outdoors! U.S. Highway 550 cleanup will take place at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 17. Participants should meet at the Hermosa Creek Conoco. Volunteers will clean-up two sections of U.S. Highway 550.
