Nordic Center opens for winter season

The Nordic Center at Purgatory is open to the public for the winter season.

The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. The center offers group lessons at 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. every day and private lessons at noon. Rental skis are available for both classic and skate skiing for adults and kids and snowshoes also are for rent. A day trail pass is $15 or a season pass is available for $100.

Seniors Outdoors announces events

Seniors Outdoors will offer these activities:

Saturday Snowshoe with John Martin will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday. Specific details for these Saturday snowshoe hikes (destination, description, four-wheel-drive, etc.) will be emailed about two days in advance. Martin will announce on which trips an avalanche beacon is highly recommended. A shovel will be required on all trips. Turn backs with a partner may be permitted. The cost to carpool will be from $3 to $8, depending on destination. Dogs are allowed. To RSVP, call 749-4056 or email mudpatch22@gmail.com.

Skating at Chapman Hill Ice Rink will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The cost is $6, and $5 for seniors (60 and older). Skate rental is $3. No RSVP is required. For more information, call Nancy Mead 259-5978 or 403-2630.

The Wednesday Wanderers will hike the Animas River Trail at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. No RSVP is required. Dogs must be on a leash per city ordinance. For more information, call Eric Pahlke at 247-1130.
