Wolf Creek to celebrate founder’s 100th birthday
Charles Elliot, one of the founders of Wolf Creek Ski Area, will celebrate his 100th birthday this month, and he’ll mark the occasion, as always, by skiing.
The Gray Wolves Ski Club is inviting those who would like to make a few runs with Elliot to meet at the Wolf Creek Base Camp at 10 a.m. Tuesday and join in a birthday celebration at 11:30 a.m.
Elliot also helped found the National Ski Patrol and is a former president of the Gray Wolves Ski Club.

Durango Winter Sports to host gala Saturday
An induction celebration for two local Olympic athletes, Linda Meyers Tikalsky and Ronny Yeager, into the Durango Winter Sports Foundation Hall of Fame will take place at the foundation’s Winter Gala at 6 p.m. Saturday at in the Fort Lewis College Ballroom.
The theme will be “Celebrating Sochi.” The goal is to raise funds to provide scholarships to people with financial need and to maintain quality winter athletic programs for the region’s youths. The event will feature live entertainment by Jeff Solon, a silent auction, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres.

Tikalsky, an alpine skier, competed in the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley, Calif., and the 1964 Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. Yeager was a member of the U.S. Nordic teams in the 1972 Olympics in Sapporo, Japan, and the 1976 Olympics in Innsbruck.
