Climbing competition to be held March 15
The inaugural Grip Fest sport climbing competition will take place March 15 at the Rock Lounge Gym, 1111 Camino del Rio.
The USA Youth SCS Climbing event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $30 for USA members and $35 for nonmembers.
Adult recreation, intermediate and elite for persons 18 and older will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The adult cost for the fest with early registration is $30, and late registration is $45 the day of competition.

Nature Studies announces events
Durango Nature Studies will host these events:
Backcountry Film Festival will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave. The doors will open and a silent auction will take place at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $10 in advance at Maria’s Bookshop or Backcountry Experience, or $12 at the door or in advance at the Arts Center. Spring volunteer naturalist training for the Children Discovering Nature program will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Eoulus Room of the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave., and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 14 and 15 at the Nature Center. Participants will become volunteer naturalists, ready to lead science-based, hikes for kids in kindergarten through sixth grades on topics such as plants, animals, insects and water. Seniors Outdoors announces events
