Women’s mountain bike ride to be held Saturday
Mountain Bike Specialists will participate in the third annual Specialized Women’s Ride, the national event encouraging women to ride a mountain bike, on Saturday.
Women should meet at 9:30 a.m. at Mountain Bike Specialists, 949 Main Ave. The group will ride to Horse Gulch. Participants will divide into groups based on abilities with opportunity for some instruction from experienced cyclists.
Participants will return to the cycling shop for lunch, beer and other beverages at 11:30 a.m. The event is free, but donations to the Women’s Resource Center will be accepted.

The Wednesday Wanderers hike will begin in the Durango Hills area to hike Missionary Ridge to the Radio Towers and Mount Baldy. Dogs are not allowed. Nonmembers should RSVP to Cheryl Berglund at 247-9747.

Free Fishing Weekend June 7-8 in Colorado
Fishing on all public waters in the state will be free June 7-8 for Colorado’s Free Fishing Weekend. Anglers of all ages can fish without a license anywhere in the state that weekend.
Although a license is not required that weekend, Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds the public that all other rules and regulations will apply. Anglers should consult the 2014 Colorado Fishing Brochure for specific regulations and restrictions for the waters they’ll be fishing.

Boaters reminded to clean watercraft of invasive mussels
Boaters are reminded to clean, drain and dry their boats before transporting their watercraft and equipment to protect waters from zebra and quagga mussels.
Mussels and their microscopic larvae can survive long after a watercraft has left a water body. Open all compartments and air-dry watercraft leaving positive waters for up to 30 days.
Invasive zebra and quagga mussels multiply rapidly and spread to new waters by adhering to boats and other equipment that come in contact with the water.
