The Fort Lewis College Cycling Team will hold its annual Squawker Classic road racing events Saturday and Sunday.
The “Morehart Murphy Team Time Trial” will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday. Four-person collegiate teams and individual racers will start at the intersection of River Road and La Posta Road (County Road 213) at one-minute intervals. The USA Cycling category Individual Time Trial will start at 9 a.m. and use the same course.
The “Durango Performance Center Criterium” will take place on 4th to 6th avenues and 7th to 10th streets. The start finish will be at 4th Avenue and 9th Street. Racing will finish at 6 p.m.
Racing concludes on Sunday with the “Carver Brewing Co. Road Race,” starting at 8 a.m. on Rim Drive in front of the Education Business Hall.

For the Time Trial from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday there may be short delays on La Posta Road (County Road 213) to allow riders to start and turnaround.
For the Criterium from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday East 4th Avenue and East 5th Avenue will be closed between 7th and 10th streets and East 6th Avenue will be closed between 9th and 10th streets. Accordingly, 7th and 8th streets will be closed between 4th and 5th avenues and 9th and 10th streets will be closed between 4th and 6th avenues. There will be no parking on the course and any vehicles on the inside of the course will need to exit at 5th Avenue and 10th Street.
For the Road Race on Sunday the following roads will be closed to vehicles from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
Southbound Goeglein Gulch between the Fort Lewis Drive roundabout and 8th Avenue. 8th Avenue between College Drive and the Rim Drive traffic signal. Runner registration for the 2016 Durango Double will open at 8 a.m. May 1 at www.durangodouble.com.
This annual running event, presented by Animas Surgical Hospital and benefiting the Women’s Resource Center, features two half marathons – one on trails and one on road – on subsequent days.
The Trail Half Marathon will take place Oct. 8, and the Road Half Marathon will take place Oct. 9.
The Durango Double will also feature the Gena Rych 5k, a family-friendly walk/run in honor of the late Gena Rych.
Early registration fees are $100 for the Double, $65 for either the road or trail half marathon, and $35 for the 5k.
Finish line festivities will take place at Animas Surgical Hospital including food, beer from Ska Brewing, kid’s races, music and more. People who run either half marathon will get a free entry to Durango Oktoberfest happening that same weekend in Buckley Park.
The primary beneficiary of this event is the Women’s Resource Center.
Trail work in conjunction with Trails 2000 will take place from 9 a.m. to noon April 30. The trail section that runs from Carbon Junction along the Animas River is the final stretch of the Durango Double and is in need of repair. People who show up and volunteer for the whole 3 hours will earn a 50 percent off coupon for their race entry.
