Fly-fishing workshop to be held Saturday

Durango Nature Studies will host a fly-fishing workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Durango Nature Center.

The cost is $10 for nonmembers and free for members. All workshop participants will receive free entry to the Nature Center, which is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Avid fly-fisherman Jake West will lead the workshop on all the basics. He will talk about bugs, fly-tying and fly-fishing tips. Casting lessons in the meadow also will take place.

Seniors Outdoors announces events

Seniors Outdoors will host these events:

A group will leave for the Sawatch Mountain Range on Saturday to climb Mount Elbert and Mount Massive with a possible additional summit of La Plata Peak and Mount Yale. Early morning starts will be required. For more information, call Michael Snyder at 403-1042 or email comichael57@gmail.com.

The SO! General Meeting and Fall Potluck will take place Tuesday at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave. There will be a new member orientation at 5:30 p.m., a social at 6:30 p.m. and the potluck at 7 p.m. In addition to a potluck dish, food donations to benefit the Volunteers of America shelter will be collected. The Wednesday Wanderers will hike the Mancos Box Canyon/Transfer/Rim Trails loop. This hike will be an interpretive hike led by MK Thompson of the San Juan Mountains Association into an area of the Mancos River. No dogs are allowed. To RSVP for members and nonmembers, call Dave Rich at 247-8044.
