Seniors Outdoors announces activities

Seniors Outdoors will host these activities:

A moderate, 11.4-mile mountain bike ride on Lime Creek Road will take place Saturday. To RSVP, call Sandy Hoagland at 247-3678 or email swhoagy@live.com.

A walk and photo trip to Twin Lakes and West Mancos Valley will take place Saturday. Dogs are OK. The trip is limited to 12 people. To RSVP, call Bob Powell at 385-8949 or email RobertLPowell@durango.net.

A moderate hike to Castle Rock will take place Sunday. Dogs are OK. To RSVP, call John Martin at 247-2581 or email jmartin@mydurango.net.

A camping trip is planned to Collins Spring and Sheik’s Canyon in Utah from Sunday to Wednesday. Dogs are not permitted. To RSVP, call Rich Butler at 403-3185 or email rbbutler54@gmail.com.

The general meeting will take place Tuesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave. John Buting, program coordinator with Durango Nature Studies, will present “Ancient Vistas of the Colorado Plateau.” The social will start at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.

Laurie Swisher, forester and old growth specialist with the Forest Service, will lead a 4-mile Wednesday Wanderers hike up the Lower Hermosa Creek Trail at 9 a.m. Wednesday. People should meet at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave. Dogs on a leash are OK. Nonmembers should RSVP to Dave Rich at 247-8044

Hiking on the Pine River Trail will take place Thursday, starting at the Pine River Campground north of Vallecito Reservoir. Dogs on leash or under voice control are allowed. To RSVP, call Nancy Mead at 259-5978 or email nancy.a.mead@gmail.com

Ladies pistol class to take place Oct. 12

The Bayfield Lions Club and Wolverine School of Personal Safety will host a “Ladies-only Basic Defensive Pistol” class from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 12 at the Bayfield Lions Club/Art Davis Range on County Road 223.

Women of any experience are welcome and should bring handguns and ammunition. Participants will learn basic safety and defensive shooting skills. An experienced instructor and assistants will run the class and be available to answer questions.

Hearing and eye protection will be necessary; sunglasses are acceptable. Targets will be provided, and bottled water will be available. The rifle/pistol range will be closed to all other shooting during this event. Husbands and boyfriends are not invited.

The class is free, but donations will be accepted and will go to the Bayfield Lions Club.
