Mancos State Park announces events
Mancos State Park will host these activities:
The “Dove of the Desert Concert Choir” from Glendale, Ariz., will perform popular music at 1 p.m. Saturday at the amphitheater.
“Wild Games,” which teach kids, and their parents, about wildlife and habitat, will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday.
A campfire concert will feature Neeta and Codi, a mother-daughter team, at 7 p.m. Saturday. The duet will sing folk, country and western songs.
A walk with the park naturalist to see and hear birds will take place at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Participants should bring binoculars.
Learn about butterflies and other insect pollinators on a morning nature walk at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Saturday hike, walk to benefit safehouse
Backcountry Experience and Volunteers of America will host a climb of Handies Peak, a Fourteener near Silverton, or a walk on the Animas River Trail on Saturday in support of Southwest Safehouse and Durango Community Shelter.
The hike will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the walk will begin between 8:30 and 9 a.m. The walk will begin at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave. Proceeds will benefit Volunteers of America Southwest Safehouse and Durango Community Shelter.

Seniors Outdoors announces activities
Seniors Outdoors will host these activities:
A challenging, 14-mile hike with 6,400 feet elevation gain starting in Telluride and going over seven peaks will take place Sunday and Monday. Participants should expect exposure and loose rock. A moderate 6-mile loop hike with 1,000 feet elevation gain on Relay Creek and Grayrock Ridge will take place Tuesday. Well-behaved dogs are allowed. To RSVP, call Susan Beck-Brown at 375-0948 or email sbeckbrown@yahoo.com.
An easy, 4-mile hike in the Jacob’s Cliffs/Dalla Park area will take place Wednesday. The hike will begin at the trailhead off Burkett Street. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed. Nonmembers must RSVP to Jim Shadell at 247-5597.
A moderate, 8-mile hike with 1,500 feet elevation gain to Columbine Lake from Porphyry Basin will take place Thursday. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are necessary, and dogs are allowed. To RSVP, call Judy Mack at 259-9529 or email tupelo16@gmail.com.
