Nature Studies announces programs

Durango Nature Studies announces these programs:

Durango Nature Center will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays beginning this week through Oct. 26. Admission is free for members and children 12 and younger and $5 for nonmembers. No dogs are allowed. The Nature Center is on River’s End Lane off County Road 310/318 in Bondad.

A New Moon Astro-Tour will take place from 9 to 11 p.m. Monday at the Nature Center. The hike is free for members, and $10 for nonmembers.

A Bird Walk will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at For the Birds, 1560 East Second Ave. The walk is free, but donations to Nature Studies will be accepted.

A Dandelion Workshop will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. May 18 at the Nature Center. The workshop is free for members and $10 for nonmembers.

A Full Moon Hike Under the Flower Moon will take place from 8 to 9:30 p.m. May 25 at Animas City Mountain. The hike is free for members and $10 for nonmembers

Seniors Outdoors! announces activities

Seniors Outdoors! will host these activities:

A tour to view scenic natural arches east of Aztec will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Santa Rita Park. The trip will include many short and easy walks, and photogenic arches in Hart, Alamo, Caballo, Crow and Pump canyons. Carpool is available for $8. No dogs are allowed. Wednesday Wanderers will meet for a hike to Twin Buttes II at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Santa Rita Park. This will be the third in a series of hikes in the Twin Buttes area. The hike is moderate, and dogs on leashes are OK. Nonmembers should RSVP to Ray Walker at 382-7662.

A Vallecito Creek hike will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Animas City Park. The group will drive to the trailhead and hike the trail as far as possible. Dogs are OK. Carpool will be available for $5. To RSVP, call Sue Agranoff at 946-9946 or email sagranoff@alum.mit.edu.

A mountain bike outing in Boggy Draw will meet at 8:30 a.m. May 17 at the Twin Buttes trailhead. Participants will ride several moderate, single-track loops on a designated mountain-bike trail system near Dolores. Participants must have mountain-bike suspension and intermediate or better riding skills. People should bring a lunch. Carpool will be available for $5. No dogs are allowed.
