Appalachian Trail presentation Tuesday
Wildlife biologist Chris Schultz will present “Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail: A 6-month Walk in the Woods” from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Center of Southwest Studies Lyceum at Fort Lewis College.
Schultz, with the U.S. Forest Service for 23 years, will share information and images of the nation’s first National Scenic Trail, a 2,176-mile route that traverses the Appalachians from Springer Mountain, just north of Atlanta, to its northern terminus at Baxter Peak on Mount Katahdin in central Maine. Completing the AT, a hiker will do the equivalent of climbing from sea level to the top of Mount Everest 16 times.
This presentation is part of the San Juan Mountains Association “Gear Up for Wilderness” Lecture Series and the regional Wilderness 50 programming for spring 2014.
