A 13-mile challenging hike to Mountain View Crest, the Needleton Overlook and beyond is planned for Wednesday. Additional off-trail hikes to four high points and some exploratory miles will be included. A four-wheel-drive vehicle with high clearance is needed. Dogs are not allowed. Basics of fly-fishing to be discussed
The Cortez Cultural Center and the Dolores River Anglers chapter of Trout Unlimited will sponsor a “Basics of Fly Fishing” workshop Sept. 19.
A three-hour classroom session will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19, followed with streamside coaching from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 on the Dolores River. Participants will be teamed with experienced fly-fishing coaches who know what works in the area. The workshop is women- and high school youth-friendly. The class is intended for people who are new to fly-fishing and people who need a refresher course.
The cost for the workshop is $35. Registration forms are available at the Cortez Cultural Center, 25 N. Market St. in Cortez or at http://cortezculturalcenter.org.
