Winter Warrior 10K to be held
The Winter Warrior 10K will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 30 at Durango Nordic Center.
The 10K will benefit the Durango Youth Nordic Ski Team. Volunteers are needed for the event. Snowshoes and all forms of snow traction devices are welcome. People who want to use this race to qualify for USSSA Nationals must use legal snowshoes. There also will be a 5K, kids race, and a best 80’s competition.

Archery tournament opened to schools
Registration is opened for Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s second annual 2016 National Association in the Schools Program Virtual Tournament in Colorado as a part of the Colorado Archery in the Schools Program, from Feb. 1 to 19 at participating Colorado schools staffed with a certified Basic Archery Instructor.
Team registration at www.nasptournaments.org will end Feb. 19. The registration fee of $2.50 per scored student is payable online during registration through the website. Teams must be comprised of students separated by grade divisions as follows: elementary (4-5), middle (6-8), and high school (9-12). Schools may enter several teams per division.
The Colorado Archery in the Schools Program trains educators to incorporate international-style target archery into the physical education curriculum. Top scoring teams will be selected by division with trophies and medals awarded to the schools and team members. Individual boy and girl champions in each division will be awarded a state champion bow.

Nordic Center holds Coke race
The Nordic Center at Purgatory will be holding a Coke race Saturday.
There will be Classic ski races of 10km for adults and shorter distances for juniors and there also will be a fat tire bike race. Registration will start at 9 a.m., the ski races will start at 10 a.m. and the bike race will start at 11 a.m. The cost of the race is $10 for juniors and $20 for adults.

Seniors Outdoors activities announced
Seniors Outdoors will hold these activities:
A Saturday Snowshoe with John Martin will take place 9 a.m. Saturday. Specific details for these hikes will be emailed about two days in advance. Martin will announce on which trips an avalanche beacon is recommended. A shovel will be required on all trips. Turn backs with a partner may be permitted. A backcountry ski into McMillan Bowl will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The ski will take place on intermediate terrain, and the avalanche danger is usually low. Participants will need climbing skins. The Nordic Center at Purgatory will offer a classic cross-country ski clinic or a skate ski clinic to members of Seniors Outdoors at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. There will be one class for beginners and another one for intermediate skiers who want to improve their cross-country skills. The skate ski clinic will be for people who have some experience with classic cross-country. Beginners should sign up for the classic clinic. Equipment rentals are available on site. The classes will cost $15. If participants need to rent equipment, it’s an extra $10 for classic and $15 for skate equipment. People should arrive 20 minutes early if renting.
