In spite of a microburst of wind that knocked over tents Saturday and blew away the grill, OzFest rocked on.
Saturday's second annual music festival in Joe Stephenson Park raised $6,800 for local families with children who have cancer, and a few silent auctions are still being paid for, said organizer Robin Goldman. Her son, Ozzie, is the namesake for the event.
Checks to the four families were sent out Monday night for $1,466.25 each to the families of Maddie Abdallah-Boehm, Dominik Fisher, Jaden Page and Chloe Harris. The remaining funds are being saved to help a family in the future who receives a diagnosis of pediatric cancer.
"It's an amazing community," Goldman said. Several volunteers showed up Saturday to help set up at the festival, and after the grill blew away, another one was procured, along with some new hot dogs. Beau Smith, Tomyris, Red Eyed Djinn, Midnight Backhand and the Full Circle Collective provided the live music.
"I just want to give a big thank you to the community," Goldman said, noting the efforts of Maggy Baxter, Jered Davis and the Be FRANK Foundation in helping organize and run the event.
Donations are still being accepted at the OzFest account at First National Bank of Durango.
