P.E.O. chapter opens scholarship session

Dorothy Gore Scholarship applications are now available to graduating high school senior girls in La Plata County with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.

The $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by Philanthropic Education Organization Chapter CS, is awarded to a student who has shown academic promise, leadership potential and community service and honors retired Durango teacher Dorothy Gore.

Although all are considered, students who apply to Cottey College, a four-year women’s college owned by the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Nevada, Missouri, are given special consideration.

Applications are available at high school counseling offices. The application deadline is April 19.
