Not long after a taxing three matches at the Sept. 22 Simla Invitational out in Elbert County, Ignacio (2-10, 1-4 2A/1A San Juan Basin) fell 25-23, 25-16, 25-9 at home Tuesday night against Pagosa Springs (5-7, 2-2 3A Intermountain).
Junior Makayla Howell managed to smack 13 kills, came up with seven digs and was in on five total blocks according to Coach Thad Cano's counts, while senior Amethyst 'Misty' Egger-Morris had two kills, five digs and three blocks. Taylor Lewis registered eight kills and Elsa Lindner five for first-year head coach Caitlin Forrest's crew, with Lindner also reportedly in on six total blocks and credited with 16 digs.
Ignacio lost 3-0 to 2A No. 9 Simla, 3-0 to 1A No. 1 Kit Carson, and 3-2 to unranked 2A Oak Creek Soroco at the six-team Invitational. Next up for the Volleycats will be a Sept. 29 trip to Nucla, resuming SJBL work, while the Pirates will next see action Oct. 2 when they visit Bayfield for an IML showdown.
