Paint the roundabout, save the sculptures

I’ve been thinking about this suggestion for a couple of weeks, and if I had followed through earlier maybe the latest wreck on the Chapman Hill roundabout wouldn’t have happened. I would like to suggest the city paint the edge of the roundabout with the yellow paint used for centerline striping on streets and highways.

I was happy to see the little arrow signs that were put into place after the first three sculptures were damaged, but obviously they are not enough. The yellow paint would be a contrast to the concrete gray of the roundabout and hopefully prevent another accident.

I was glad read in the Herald that the creator of the sculptures, Joshua Wiener, is already working to rebuild the first three damaged sculptures. If there is anything iconic about Durango culture it is that so many of us are bicyclists.

Hopefully the city will take my suggestion to heart. They say that opinions are like belly buttons: Everybody has one. This is my belly button on the Chapman Hill roundabout.
