Durango High School played a “very good Palisade” team in the opening round of the Palisade Tournament on Friday in the Front Range.
Palisade beat the DHS girls basketball team 52-35.
“They’re very athletic,” said DHS head coach Nancy Smith, whose Demons’ squad has been running a four-guard offense with absences and illnesses across the varsity roster.
Palisade outrebounded DHS 24-14.
Katie Wiegert led the Demons with 14 points, “and the rest of the scoring was pretty spread out,” Smith said.
Katrina Chandler led the Demons with four assists, and Kaitlyn Doughty and Jenny Wellbourn led the Demons with three rebounds each.
DHS (2-3) will play Cheyenne South (Cheyenne, Wyo.) at 10 a.m. Saturday.
