Parking lot repairs to limit access at Lake Nighthorse

Boat ramp will be closed starting May 29
The city of Durango and Bureau of Reclamation announced a revised schedule at Lake Nighthorse to accommodate repairs to the boat ramp parking lot, which will start May 29.

The city of Durango and Bureau of Reclamation recently announced that motorized boating and launching boats from trailers at Lake Nighthorse will begin Saturday and continue through Memorial Day on May 28.

Starting May 29, the boat ramp parking lot will be closed while the Bureau of Reclamation completes repairs, which will discontinue all motorized recreation and shut down the boat ramp to non-motorized watercraft launched from trailers. Only non-motorized, hand-launched watercraft will be allowed until officials announce that the parking lot repairs are complete and the boat ramp is fully reopened.

Visitors will be able to travel though the boat-ramp parking lot when construction is not active, which will be the case more often on weekends. The overflow parking lot will remain open throughout construction.

From May 29 to the date the boat ramp fully reopens, Durango Parks and Recreation will accept reservations for complimentary boat and trailer inspections. To make a reservation, call the Lake Nighthorse entrance station at 375-7335.

The lake is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until June 1, after which hours will be extended from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
