Parking plan takes railroad for granted

In response to the editorial regarding downtown parking spots (Herald, March 20) I submit the following:

Durango’s train is a genuine asset. By association its tracks can and do appeal to the curiosity of anybody who walks Narrow Gauge Avenue or parks there.

Simply by virtue of its presence Narrow Gauge Avenue silently advertises the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. (Additionally, it may remind residents of the origins of this beautifully designed western city). To my mind it’s questionable business then to consider prohibiting everyday visitors and day-tripper and weekenders from parking along Narrow Gauge Avenue.

Perhaps city officials have reached a point they feel comfortable publicly taking the train for granted and reducing the public’s exposure to this asset.
