Thanks for your front page essay by Christian Burney, “World Upended: Family’s lives turned upside down after ICE arrest near Bayfield,” (Herald, Sept. 10). I was appalled by the ugly responses on social media, and hardly less so by the letter from Mike Sigman, “A war against the Constitution,” (Herald, Sept. 10).
Unless we’re Native American, we’re all descended from immigrants. I do hope the neighbors of Sigman’s immigrant ancestors wherever they settled were kinder and more accepting than he is of the immigrants who work today honestly in any number of jobs and in the fields that grow what he eats.
Sigman’s immigrant ancestors were given a path to citizenship and our privileged lives in the United States. Why not Sigman’s immigrant neighbors today?
