What would a patriot do?
A “patriot” – someone who loves their country and will defend it. Someone who believes in the U.S. Constitution. So how do you support someone who dogged the draft because university studies (three times), and could not serve due to a “bone spur” (with no documentation)? And who was also quoted as saying, “You think I’m stupid, I wasn’t going to Vietnam.” Or a person who says this about a former Vietnam vet and Congressman: “I like people who weren’t captured,” Donald Trump (July 2015). Or a person whose version of a pledge to uphold the oath of office of the highest position in our government by suggesting that parts of the U.S. Constitution should face “termination.” Or during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot said, “So what?” to a report that Vice President Mike Pence’s life was in danger. Trump also used our nation’s most hallowed cemetery, Arlington, for political promotion in defiance of a rule that forbade such actions. And if we blend the Christian and patriotic themes, we get this, “The God Bless The USA Bible,” which former president Trump now peddles as his way to conflate Christian beliefs with nationalism, meaning Christian nationalism. Not exactly a person or presidential candidate who’s supporting “we the people.”
So what would a patriot do? Hopefully vote to uphold the constitution and the letter of law, not bend to the machinations of someone who so clearly does not uphold or believe in “we the people.” Think and vote.
