Northbound traffic was temporarily reduced to one lane Tuesday evening after a pedestrian was hit by a car on north Main Avenue.

John Dever with the Durango Police Department said two men were attempting to cross the road at 21st Street and Maine Avenue.

“There was a string of cars, so the men waited in the middle of the road,” he said. “When one gentleman tried to cross, a southbound car struck him with its mirror.”

Dever said the driver claims he did not see the man crossing the road.

The man was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center by ambulance with a head injury, Dever said. His current status is unknown.

The pedestrian has not been identified.
