Getting back into the swing of things didn’t take long for the Ignacio baseball team.
The Bobcats scored five runs in the fourth inning of a 10-2 win over Bloomfield’s junior varsity team Thursday at the Piedra Vista Junior Varsity Tournament in Farmington.
“I thought we hit the ball real well in the middle of the game,” first-year Bobcats’ head coach Robert Miller said. “We started off slow, and, as the game progressed, they started coming around.”
IHS senior Ike Peña pitched four innings without giving up a hit. He struck out six and hit two batters.
He also went 1-for-4 at the plate, walking once and scoring twice.
Andrew Martinez was the first to relieve Peña on the mound and starred for the Bobcats at the plate. He hit two doubles in five plate appearances and drove in four runs.
“I thought we played real solid ball for the first game of the year,” Miller said.
