Phil Weiser for governor

Sen. Bennet is running in the Democratic primary for governor of Colorado against Attorney General Phil Weiser. Sen. Bennet questions Weiser’s ability to fight Trump, saying, “I understand that Phil is a litigator and that his default is the push for that, but I believe Colorado has a much bigger toolbox to bring to the table.”

Does Bennet understand the limits of the AG’s office – that it is only the people’s lawyer? An AG can’t create legislation or regulations to fight Trump; that’s just not in the job description. However, a sitting U.S. senator can, and should.

Bennet has confirmed more of Trump’s awful cabinet choices than almost any other senator. He backed Brooke Rollins for Secretary of Agriculture, whom Weiser has had to sue four times to ensure SNAP funding for Colorado’s kids and protect USDA funding.

Bennet also confirmed Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, who just announced the sale of yet another 120 million acres of public land to oil and gas companies after trying to gut Bears Ears National Monument and poison the Boundary Waters.

Bennet even approved Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who promptly shut down NCAR, the flagship atmospheric research facility in the U.S., based in Boulder. Wright has also decimated the country’s clean energy goals while pushing “Drill, baby, drill.”

What legislation has Bennet introduced and passed to rein in Trump’s excesses? I’m voting for the man fighting for Colorado: Phil Weiser.
