There are two good men running to be the Democratic nominee for governor in the June primary. One, realistically, will be our next governor, as the state GOP is a mess. One has the stronger name recognition while the other has the stronger experience.
U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet is halfway through his current term as our senior senator in Washington, where he’s built a reputation as a moderate, reasonable, hard-working man. He’s very well known.
The lesser known person is Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, who has toiled as our far less public attorney general for the past eight years. Attorney general is considered the training ground for governor because they spend countless hours delving into the problems of citizens in small counties all over the state. Weiser certainly has, including here in La Plata County, for days at a time.
He truly understands our local issues and concerns. He has comprehensive plans on how to improve our daily lives, and the tenacity to push forward with them no matter what overreach the federal government attempts.
Weiser is a fighter, and a winner for us, with over 65 cases against the Trump administration reining in their illegal actions. He can help us attain what we all want: more attainable homes, childcare, youth mental health, adult preventative healthcare and secure water rights.
Go with the lesser known guy — Phil Weiser for governor.
