Phone service restored at Los Ranchitos subdivision north of Durango

Source of problem remains unclear

Residents in the Los Ranchitos subdivision north of Durango report that phone service was restored late Saturday after it was out for more than 24 hours.

“I wouldn’t say this is an ongoing issue, but the neighborhood was without phone service for several days last summer,” Los Ranchitos resident Nadine Ancel wrote in an email Saturday morning.

The problem prevented many in the community from contacting phone service provider CenturyLink to identify the problem. Ancel said because the subdivision lost power for about 30 minutes Friday, she and her neighbors had been unable to phone out.

Weather impaired a Tri-State transmission line near Bayfield around 10:20 Friday morning, which temporarily cut electricity for customers in Los Ranchitos. Power was restored about 10:45 a.m., but phone service remained down.

“Because the weather conditions yesterday, we did not attempt to travel the six miles to the closest cellphone coverage area,” Ancel wrote. “Plus, I assumed that the outage was storm-related.

The Durango Herald was unable to reach representatives with CenturyLink Saturday, but Los Ranchitos residents reported that they could finally hear dial tones around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. It remains unclear why service was interrupted.

Aaron Renner with LPEA dispatch said no other power issues since Friday morning have been reported.
