Several veterans organizations in Durango organized a raft trip down the Animas River and a picnic at Santa Rita Park on Sunday afternoon. Demetrius Lewis, chairman of the Elks Club’s Veteran Committee, said it is the first joint event held by his group, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4031 and the American Legion Post No. 28. He said the groups are looking to make the river trip an annual event.
