Los Pinos Fire Protection District and Durango Fire Protection District firefighters extinguish small fire a few miles south of Elmore’s Corner and east of State Highway 172. A controlled burn got out of control Saturday afternoon and threatened a few structures, Durango Fire Battalion Chief Tony Harwig said. The fire burned close to a few sheds and camper but did not touch them. It took about two hours to put out the fire because it got into some thick brush. Residents who are planning controlled burns should try to do it in the morning and have them out by noon, Harwig said.
