An effort afoot to recall Democratic Gov. Jared Polis has trickled down to La Plata County. Organizer Brett Wells set up shop near the Rusty Shovel Saloon in Durango as a staging area for people who want to sign the petition. After a few days, Wells said about 70 people had signed the petition for a recall of Polis. Petitions can also be found at Goods for the Woods and Kelly’s Cowboy Co. Wells said people who support the recall take issue with many of Polis’ political views, including his stances on gun rights, oil and gas regulations and treatment of people living illegally in the country. Organizers have until Sept. 6 to collect 631,266 valid signatures from registered Colorado voters to spark the recall election.
