Photo: Remodel begins at former Francisco’s Restaurant & Cantina

Construction worker Elijah Nez erects a barrier between the sidewalk and the front of the former Francisco’s Restaurant & Cantina at 619 Main Ave. on Tuesday. The building is being remodeled to create three separate business suites. Earlier this year, the public fought the Durango Design Review Board’s recommendation that the veranda be removed from the former restaurant. After several meetings, a compromise was reached and the Spanish Colonial style veranda will remain.
