Look closely at this picture taken about 66 years ago. The train still ran from Durango to Alamosa, as well as to Farmington. The bridge in the picture still exists as part of the Animas River Trail. Today, you would see the U.S. Highway 550-160 bridge next to it. Where the trees are, in the upper middle of the picture, is the current site of Santa Rita Park and the wastewater treatment plant.
