Readers have asked for the identities of the people at the groundbreaking ceremony for the old Durango Chamber of Commerce building in Santa Rita Park, and the Herald has dusted off its memory for an answer. The folks in the August 1985 photo are, from left: Terry McGuire, of McGuire Construction Co.; Shirley Murphy, the manager of the Durango Chamber of Commerce; Bob Allison, president of the chamber’s board of directors; and Steve Parker, chairman of the building committee. At far right, in the two-tone earth-tone getup is current Mayor Dean Brookie, architect for the project.
