Photo: Winter 1915

Winter 1915 was severe for the east side of the 700 block of Main Avenue. Snow was piled high and tire tracks were barely visible down the middle of the road. The businesses shown in this photo are TE Bowman Newsstand & Stationary, Brinkley-Douglass Fruit, New York Bakery and Jackson Hardware. The New York Bakery still existed into the 2000s. Today, the businesses in this same location are Seasons of Durango, Crow’s Closet and, before its recent closing, Durango Roasters was located where the bakery operated. <br><br>Ed Horvat for The Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org
