As of 3 p.m. Monday, nearly 90 people had dropped off an estimated 300 pumpkins at a two-day drop-off event at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Darrin Parmenter with the Colorado State University Extension Office said the pumpkins will be given to local farmers and ranchers to use as animal feed. About 70 apples were also dropped off, as well as 1,000 cubic yards of leaves for use as compost.
