Photos: Christmas trees meet the wood chipper

Brent Interpreter, left, and James Paratti, both with Durango Parks and Recreation forestry division, feed Christmas trees into the mulcher Tuesday at Santa Rita Park. So far this year they’ve ground up about 300 trees that have been dropped off in the park’s parking area behind the playground next to the Animas River. Trees can be dropped off until Jan. 31. Mulch from the trees, along with other types of tree mulch, is piled up on the east side of Greenmount Cemetery and is free to the public. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
