Photos: Forest Service works to control small fire northwest of Durango

The pilot of a Kachina Aviation helicopter, contracted by the U.S. Forest Service, lands near Falls Creek Ranch Subdivision on Friday so the ground crew can pack up the cable and water bucket. The helicopter was fighting a half-acre fire 2 miles west of Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa before a thunderstorm shut down the operation. The fire started in mixed conifer on Wednesday.
