Three more miles of U.S. Highway 550 will become four lanes south of Durango. The extension is possible because of cost-savings provided by Lawrence Construction on the project to connect the highway to the Grandview Interchange. At 6 a.m. Monday, 12 concrete bridge girders, each 140 feet long and 185,000 pounds, will be transported to the Highway 550 project site near the interchange. Traffic will be stopped three times as trucks pass through the intersection of highways 160 and 172. Traffic will also be stopped for a similar delivery Thursday.
