Photos: Giant-sized boulder stops just short of U.S. Highway 160 near Durango

A giant-sized boulder sits along the side of U.S. Highway 160 west of Twin Buttes after falling from a ridgeline, taking out trees and creating a new pond in a wetlands area. Sometime after the rock came down late fall, the Colorado Department of Transportation regional survey and geotechnical teams conducted a field trip, with permission from the property owner, to walk and inspect the ridgeline. The team did not see any immediate concerns for additional rockfalls. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
