Kindergarten students at the Juniper School raised $275 for the La Plata County Humane Society to repair the nasal passages of Serena, a stray dog, which allowed her to breathe through her nose. The fundraising was part of a concept-based learning program about choices students can make to help animals in the community. On Tuesday, Ken Hibbard, center, education and adoption coordinator with the Humane Society, and intern Iris Linscott, right, visited the school with Serena. Elise Salsbury, 6, pets her.
