Piedra Vista proves pesky to BHS baseball

Unlike the teams' prior go-round, runs were mutually abundant in the make-up match.

But despite putting up 10 runs, Bayfield surrendered 17 to the 4A Farmington Piedra Vista junior varsity on March 27 and went into spring break on somewhat of a down note.

PV put together runs in each inning but the last. The Panthers and broke the game open, snapping a 5-5 tie, with six scratches in the home half of the third.

Sophomore Zane Phelps extended his season's torrid start with three hits (including a homer and a triple) and as many RBIs for the Wolverines. BHS is now 5-3 overall prior to their 3A Intermountain League-opening doubleheader tomorrow at Alamosa (2-4, 0-0).

Relieving starter Dillon Hoselton, senior Trey Lange took the loss on the Farmington Sports Complex mound for BHS. The pair combined for five knocks against the Panthers as the Wolverines battled back to as close as 14-10 after the top of the fifth. Brody McGhehey also pitched for BHS.

BOBCATS BEATEN BY BOBCATS: Assembling but one run in their March 28 game, Ignacio fell 11-1 to the 3A Bloomfield JV, leaving them 3-2 overall entering their 2A/1A San Juan Basin League opener on April 8, when Dove Creek visits SunUte Field. The run was by senior Bo Ward, brought in by the bat of classmate Clayton Jefferson.
