Fort Lewis College head men’s basketball coach Bob Pietrack has been recognized by his peers after leading the Skyhawks through a historic 2022-23 campaign. This week, Pietrack was named the South-Central Region Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Akuel Kot was also praised with First Team All-Region honors.

In his eighth season at the helm, Pietrack led Fort Lewis to a program record 29 wins, finishing 29-4 overall. FLC also set program records with 25 regular season wins and a 10-1 road record. The Skyhawks also accomplished what just two teams have before, capturing at least a share of the regular-season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title as well as the RMAC Tournament Championship.

“I am honored to be chosen by my peers as the South-Central Region Coach of the Year,” Pietrack said. “Basketball is such a team sport, and so is coaching. I want to thank all our assistant coaches, especially associate head coach Ty Danielson for all the countless hours of preparation and hard work. This is a staff award, and I share it with them completely. I would also like to thank President Stritikus and AD Travis Whipple for their elite support of the program. We had a special season because we had a talented unselfish group of players that worked extremely hard. They were phenomenal all year long and gave us coaches a wonderful ride. The 2023 'Hawks will never be forgotten.”
