Pilot lands plane on County Road 205

Engine failure leads to emergency landing; no injuries in mishap
Daudi Barnes of Durango was forced to make an emergency landing in his single-engine plane Sunday afternoon onto County Road 205. The plane’s engine failed. The cause of the problem was unknown Sunday evening.

A small plane made an emergency landing about 3 p.m. Sunday on County Road 205. No injuries were reported.

La Plata County Sheriff’s spokesman Dan Bender said deputies responded to the 2000 block of County Road 205, also known as Turtle Lake Road, about four miles northwest of Durango.

“Daudi Barnes of Durango was flying a Cessna 150, a single-engine airplane, and he reported that he had engine failure, and he tried to land on or alongside CR 205,” Bender said.

Barnes left Animas Airpark, and shortly after, he reported his engine was failing.

No one was injured in the emergency landing, Bender said.

He said a utility line along the road was damaged. The road was closed, so the wreckage could be cleared. The road reopened later Sunday evening, according to La Plata County-Durango Central Dispatch Center.
