DENVER – Federal investigators say the deadly crash of a small plane into a Colorado reservoir likely occurred because of errors made by the two pilots.
The Colorado Sun reports the National Transportation Safety Board has released its final report on the February 2017 crash that killed 58-year-old Patrick Blankemeier of Arvada and 23-year-old James Griffit, of Denver.
The Cessna 172 crashed into the Culver Reservoir near Berthoud.
The report says the wreck was probably caused by the pilots’ failure to “adequately recover from the intentional aerodynamic spin.”
Investigators did not find any evidence of mechanical problems or flight control issues that would have disrupted flying.
Both Griffith and Blankemeier were licensed pilots.
