District Little League action is underway this weekend, with Cortez, Durango and Pine River playing for the area championship for 11- and 12-year-olds.
The Pine River team defeated Durango 8-1 on Wednesday night and were scheduled to play Cortez on Thursday. Caden Wood was the winner on the mound for Pine River on Wednesday, pitching for four innings.
Lance Mazur threw the fifth inning, and Jackson Queen and Andy Monger finished the game.
Scoring runs for Pine River were Noah Chamblee with three runs, Queen and Mazur with two each, and Wood with one. The Pine River Team is comprised of boys from Bayfield, Ignacio and Pagosa Springs.
Cortez will take on Durango Friday night, with the championship game set for 9 a.m. Saturday at Folsom Field, and a follow-up game on Sunday if needed.
The winner of the tournament moves on to the state Little League tournament next weekend in Grand Junction.
