Pine River Library deserves our support

I support the drive to increase the annual revenue for the award -winning Pine River Library, 2014 Best Small Library in America.

This is not your father’s library anymore. It has an adjacent, outdoor park (jointly with the town of Bayfield and funded by grants); a thriving community garden; outdoor movie nights; computer terminals; flexible community meeting rooms; authentic, helpful, and conscientious staff; lots of creative kids programs; great special programs; an indoor/outdoor fireplace; and books, magazines, and reference material.

PRL is a true rock star, but it is neither palatial nor extravagant in tone. It is open to the public 61 hours each week, and that requires competent people power, which is necessarily expensive.

The annual tax revenue now funding the PRL has consistently declined for the past several years, in direct connection with the decline in oil and gas revenue produced in the area. These economic realities cause the present drive to increase annual revenue for the library.

This library complex is a true and needed community resource. It is nationally recognized and is an integral part of the compelling charm of this rural area. Even more so as we grow.

Do yourself and your neighbors a big favor: please turn out in November to support the legitimate, needed, vital gem of a library in Bayfield. And come visit often.

Vote YES on 6A – a small increase ($3.60/month for a $300,000 home) for PRL . See voteyesprl.com
